Broken Bodies Telling Broken Stories: This workshop explores the potential of hybrid writing to unearth, address, and nourish complicated stories about the body. Hybrid writing uses more than one modality to tell the story it needs to tell. Sometimes that means combining multiple literary genres or artistic modalities such as visual images. In this workshop, participants will read excerpts from hybrid literature, consider new forms their creative stories might take on the page, and practice generating their own hybrid writing through guided exercises.
Nina Lohman is the founder and publisher of Brink, a literary journal that champions hybrid and cross-genre works. She is the Literary Programming Director for the Mission Creek Festival. A 2023 Iowa Artist Fellow, her writing has been supported by the Vermont Studio Center, the Sewanee Writers’ Conference, and the Iowa Arts Council. She lives in Iowa City, Iowa.
These events are part of Dragonfly Books and the Oneota Valley Literary Foundation’s robust author event series, which brings top-notch writers of all genres to Northeast Iowa to lead in conversations about literature and writing.
